As an artist or designer, you may have noticed a decline in your impressions, engagement, and new followers on Instagram. Unfortunately, the culprit is likely Instagram’s 2023 Algorithm, which only allows 10% of your followers to see your post. But, instead of giving up on the app altogether, there are ways to increase engagement and grow your account under the new algorithm.
To begin, it’s important to understand Instagram’s ultimate goal: monetization. The app makes money by keeping users engaged, and it favours accounts that can do the same. Therefore, the easiest ways to keep your audience engaged are by posting reels, photos, and stories, going live, and sharing guides. The more time you spend on the app, the more Instagram will favour you, so it’s essential to post regularly and engage with your followers by replying to DMs and comments as soon as possible.
Reels are the #1 way to grow your account quickly as Instagram is prioritizing video content to compete with TikTok. By posting Reels, you can reach a larger audience, including new followers. Instagram even offers Reels bonuses for users with unique/original content, giving you a chance to earn up to $10,000. So, start posting interesting Reels, and engage with your followers by commenting back within the first 60 minutes.
When posting, it’s best not to edit your post’s caption or location tag for 24 hours or delete and repost it, as it will decrease your chances of being seen. It’s recommended to use all 30 hashtags in a post, but only include 7-10 in the caption and add the rest in a comment. Make sure the hashtags are unique and specific to your brand or the post. Sharing your new post in your stories is an easy way to alert your followers that you have a new post. Encourage them to share and save your post, which is more valuable than likes and comments.
Posting more frequently can help you gain new followers by reaching a higher percentage of people daily. When more people can see your posts, your followers are more likely to engage with your content. However, posting less frequently can also be effective as your post has time to circulate, and it may end up on your followers’ feeds later on. By understanding Instagram’s algorithm and engaging with your followers regularly, you can increase your impressions, engagement, and new followers.
